Now I know what you’re thinking already “I really don’t like making my bed every morning when I get up. Not only don’t I like it but I don’t have time”- Am I right or am I right?
If you realised just how much money and productivity “not making your bed” is costing you, you would change that habit in a flash. If you maintain the mindset that making the bed every morning is something that is “expected of you” and you really don’t like doing it then guess where your mindset is at?
That’s right they are the thoughts that you will be producing throughout your entire day,. Thoughts produce actions. So thoughts of ‘poor me’ or ‘it takes too long’, or ‘it’s not worthwhile’ will bring your mindset down like 3 cheers at a funeral.
So it’s time to clean up your thoughts and make them better serve you.
Some of the important tasks I’m talking about are – tasks like needing to organise a meeting with a client; tasks like making sure your outfit is clean, neat, tidy and represents your calibre; tasks like keeping your desk clean and tidy; tasks like raising yourself to the next level in your business; tasks like growing your database, your client base and in turn your business and your profits.
This is going to be a tough road to hoe if you are not feeling happy about it.
Now not only will making your bed in the morning help you feel good when you come home but the effects that it will have on your day are priceless. What kind of result would you get if you were feeling happier, more organised, punctual and prepared?
You’d be ready to go out and create more business for yourself, ready to talk to that client you’ve been putting off for weeks or even months; you’d be ready and organised for anything – because your mindset is healthy, motivated and organised !
Have you ever seen a set of dominos all lined up in a row and then when someone touches the first domino all the others fall along into line. Well that’s what making your bed does for you – it’s the first domino.
Once you get your mindset right by making your bed, all the other Dominos and all the other actions that you want to put into place for your day will fall into place easier than if you didn’t make your bed.
Creating powerful habits for you to be successful in your life is of high importance. Making your bed is one of the most powerful success habits that you can develop to make your day week month and year a winner.
The success habit of making your bed will set off a series of chain reactions. Because you are actioning this powerful success habit at the beginning of the day, kickstarts a series of other powerful habits to produce your successful day.
Navy Seal William H. McCraven, commander of the forces that led the raid to kill Osama bin Laden, echoed the same sentiment in his 2014 commencement speech at the University of Texas. He advised graduates,
“If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.
If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the
first task of the day.
It will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do
another task, and another, and another.
And by the end of the day that one task completed will have turned into
many tasks completed.”
Now I know we all want to feel happy in our lives. There’s nothing worse than feeling miserable throughout the day is there? Don’t you think that you feel far more productive when you are feeling happy? When you are feeling happy you trigger a set of endorphins in your brain that make you feel even happier still.
Getting through your day in a happy state of mind is far easier than in an unhappy state of mind. And we all know that when we are in an unhappy state of mind we are less productive and tasks seem far bigger than they actually are, we are less likely to take them on.
If success and productivity aren’t enough, turns out making your bed is also one of the most effective and easiest triggers of happiness. Gretchen Rubin, best-selling author and happiness researcher, says
“When I was researching my book on happiness, this was the
number one most impactful change that people brought up
over and over.”
So there we have it, if you want to have an amazing day, if you want to have a successful day, if you want to make a fortune, if you want to accomplish all of those tasks that you set out to do then start off the chain reaction by making your bed first thing in the morning.
But don’t stop there – make this a daily ritual, a daily success habit that will create other success habits throughout your day, your week and your year and before you know it you will have an amazing successful profitable business that will make you a fortune.
